Mater Health’s consultation liaison psychiatry team—Mater in Mind, is a multidisciplinary team of mental health nurses, allied health and medical professionals lead by Clinical Director Dr Paul Pun.
The service is available to assist in the assessment, management and referral of Mater patients who may have mental health conditions and require treatment while they are admitted to hospital.
Since the service commenced at Mater in May 2017 the team has provided close to 800 occasions of service to date to Mater patients.
These services include mental health assessments, review of acute and chronic presentations, and medication advice for patients experiencing acute mental health symptoms, psychological intervention and support to access mental health treatment after discharge.
The team provides a flexible, innovative model of care and has also developed an outpatient service to support Mater patients post hospital discharge.
Since commencing in December this service has proven to be well received and will be expanding.
