The Mater Young Adult Health Centre Brisbane aligns existing services as well as establishes new dedicated specialised services and environments for people predominately aged 16 to 25. It delivers the highest standards of clinical care and provides programs for adolescents and young adults to address their emotional, social and educational needs.
Catchment criteria applies to referrals for Mater Hospital Brisbane. Patients who reside outside the Mater SEQ Catchment (which includes Metro South HHS and West Moreton HHS) may not be accepted.
The centre cares for patients with acute presentations including injuries and surgical conditions along with chronic and complex health conditions.
The centre provides multidisciplinary integrated support for clinical care in addition to supporting the needs of young adults transitioning from paediatric to adult healthcare services.
The mixed medical and surgical purpose built 21 bed ward provides dedicated care for young adults aged 16 to 25 years. Located on level 7 of the Salmon Building, it offers Mater patients a unique experience designed to meet their needs through the integration of in-reach programs covering teaching, drug and alcohol withdrawal, emotional and mental health. Patients are able to recuperate and recover with access to Wi-Fi, free to air TV,indoor and outdoor social areas and a gym.
Patient access for acute or urgent conditions are via Mater Hospital Brisbane Emergency Department, and for non-urgent conditions via Mater Hospital Brisbane Outpatient Clinic referral.
Mater’s Young Adult Outpatient Clinics has purpose built consulting rooms for patients aged 16 to 25 to meet with their specialist, or members of their care team, to discuss their health treatment plans and ongoing care needs. Patient access to Mater Young Adult Outpatient Clinics is via Mater Hospital Brisbane Outpatient Clinic referral. Referrals for the young adults will be allocated to the appropriate clinic during the triage process.
The Emotional Health Unit at Mater provides access to professionals in psychiatry, psychology and social work for children, adolescents, adults, couples and families for a broad range of mental health issues.
Medicare rebates are available for patients who have a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan or referral from a psychiatrist or paediatrician.
Clarence Street is a state-wide residential detox program for people aged 13 to 18 years. It includes outreach programs and a drop-in centre for those aged up to 25 years needing support. Clarence Street programs offer individualised support and brief interventions to support young people to achieve some of their goals around their drug and alcohol use.
Access to Clarence Street is via telephone 07 3163 8400. Self referral, parent, guardian and carer referrals are accepted, in addition to healthcare and education provider referrals.
