Dr Mike Beckmann has been appointed as the Director Mothers, Babies and Women’s Health Services, Mater HEALTH.
Having been with Mater for more than 10 years, initially in the role of Staff Specialist, Dr Beckmann is currently the Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He also holds the positions of Senior Staff Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Mater HEALTH; Program Head, Mother and Babies Theme and is a Betty McGrath Research Fellow, Mater RESEARCH. Dr Beckmann is a Mater Leaders Program Alumni.
Dr Beckmann is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from The University of Queensland. He has authored and co-authored more than 40 research publications, is co-supervising 3 PhD students, and nearing completion of his own PhD on the topic of ‘Induction of Labour Methods’. Amongst his accomplishments, Dr Beckmann has been instrumental in the establishment of the iRESEARCH program for novice researchers, pioneering models of care in the antenatal setting, Consultant coverage after-hours, the new Pregnancy Assessment Centre, preconception care, patient decision-aids and TeleHealth, and also a procedural skill simulation program for gynaecology Registrars that has been recognised by RANZCOG.
