Biography

Dr Shiran De Silva graduated in Medicine with Honours from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1985.  After completing his internship in Colombo, he proceeded to the United Kingdom to pursue post graduate studies in general medicine.  In 1989 he obtained a membership to the Royal College of Physicians United Kingdom.  After further advance training in general medicine At Leicester royal Infirmary he proceeded to New Zealand in 1990 to upskill himself in other sub specialties in medicine, including Cardiology and Respiratory medicine. 

Advanced training in respiratory medicine and cardiology was obtained at the Green Lane hospital Auckland which was the premier institution for Cardiology and Respiratory medicine training in New Zealand.

Dr De Silva obtained fellowship to the Royal Australasian college of Physicians in 1993. Subsequently he practiced as a specialist physician in New Zealand for seven years including four years at the Wellington group of teaching hospitals. 

He developed respiratory services at Wanganui General hospital and lead the established respiratory service at Lower Hutt teaching hospital in Wellington New Zealand.  Dr De Silva also provided Bronchoscopy and sleep services since his admission to the fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Dr Shiran De Silva Migrated to Australia in the year 2000, where he was the director of medicine at Mackay base hospital and the director of the intensive care unit for a period of four years.  He then went onto being a part time visiting Specialist at the Mackay Base Hospital, as well as being a visiting specialist physician at Mater Hospital Mackay from 2001.    

Dr Shiran de silva moved to provide full time practice at Mater hospital Mackay since 2011 and continues to provide a private Bronchoscopy service with access to full lung function. 

Dr De Silva has further developed interest in diabetes and obesity, which is a much-needed sub specialty in Australia.  This is greatly assisted by a nutritionist who is attached to his practice

He has been acknowledged by patients and peers as being a leader in his discipline and continues to educate and upskill himself to the highest level of national and international knowledge by attending world congresses in USA, Europe and Australia 

Specialist physicians Mackay a group General physicians’ practice is now established at suit 12 Mater medical center and shortly Respiratory services Mackay will be established at the same site with access to private full lung function

Having a strong interest in General Medicine and the above subspecialities greatly assist Dr Shiran de Silva   to provides overall care for patients with multiple medical problems, reducing the need for patients to see many subspecialists.
