New era for Mater in Townsville

Friday 27 September was a milestone for Mater with the launch of the new Mater brand in Townsville as the first significant visible step in our coming together across Queensland.

Mater CEO, Dr Peter Steer, and Board Chair, Francis Sullivan, joined Gerry Wyvill at a business breakfast in Townsville to introduce the new brand and future plans for Mater in the region, before joining Mater People at a sign unveiling event at Mater Private Hospital Townsville.

“There was a genuine air of excitement at the brand events I attended both from the community and our people. To see Mater volunteers, local nurses, VMOs and the business community all connected to the idea of a single Mater entity is very exciting and encouraging,” Dr Steer said.

Mater is iconic in North Queensland, having served the region for more than 70 years as a trusted healthcare provider. The 10-year master plan, including the new $52 million development at the Pimlico Campus, demonstrates a long-term commitment to the region.

Through our extensive network of hospitals and health services, a nationally accredited education provider and a world-class research institute, we're working together to meet the needs of the community and improve health and wellbeing.

By coming together across the state, we open up new possibilities to meet the needs of our community and provide a broader platform for collaboration and partnership.

A valuable partnership with Mater Education is already developing, with our first Diploma of Nursing students due to commence study onsite in Townsville in January.
