Dr O’Gorman was recently appointed Director of Neurology within the Mater Centre for Neurosciences. In this role, he will work closely with Neurosurgeon Dr Martin Wood and the broader team in neurology to set the vision and strategy for neurology services within the MCN.
Dr O’Gorman, who also oversees the Metro South neuromuscular and botulinum toxin clinics, is an experienced neurologist and neurophysiologist with a special interest in neuromuscular disease.
Completing his medical degree in London, he trained as a neurologist in Queensland and also spent two years at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester completing fellowships in advanced clinical neurology and neurophysiology (EMG).
Dr O’Gorman will also bring his strong track record in clinical research to Mater, particularly with reference to neuromuscular diseases. He is a senior lecturer for The University of Queensland and teaches and trains students as well as basic and advanced physician trainees. He is also interested in medical leadership and in 2018 completed an AFRACMA.
Dr O’Gorman works as a medical advisor for AHPRA and serves on the RACP overseas trained physicians subcommittee. He is also on the board of Muscular Dystrophy Queensland.
