Mater Pathology private inpatients out-of-pocket costs

Over the past few months, Mater Pathology has received feedback about out-of-pocket charges for inpatient pathology.

As a result, Mater Pathology is no longer charging Mater private inpatients out-of-pocket costs for Pathology tests that are covered by the Medicare Benefits Schedule. This means that Mater private inpatients will no longer receive an invoice for tests currently covered by Medicare.

Pathology tests that are not covered by Medicare, e.g. NIPT, will continue to be billed in the usual way. You can view our current price list for tests not included on the Medicare Schedule.

Mater Pathology has chosen to absorb out-of-pocket costs to ensure focus is placed on patient care and to enhance the inpatient journey through Mater private hospitals.
