Mater expands private renal dialysis service

Mater now offers a private renal dialysis service for private patients and holiday/international patients at two locations, with the opening of a private renal dialysis service in the Mater Health Centre Brookwater.

The service is run in partnership with Fresenius Medical Care Australia, and like the existing centre at South Brisbane is tailored to the needs of each patient.  

The clinics feature state of the art electronic systems and dialysis equipment and have the option of haemodiafiltration (HDF) and high flux haemodialysis, and are staffed with dedicated renal dialysis nurses to ensure that expert clinical care is delivered to every patient. 

Dr Richard Baer, Nephrologist has been looking forward to the Private Renal Dialysis Service opening at Brookwater; “I’ve been consulting in Brookwater for a couple of years now, and know how much benefit this unit will bring to the community. It will be so much more convenient for private patients here in the Springfield region to have their dialysis locally, rather than having to travel”.

Additional benefits for private patients include: 

• consultations both within the dialysis unit and in private consulting suites by a nephrologist
• a comprehensive review of dialysis prescription, review and maintenance of dialysis access
• review of regular blood tests, dialysis adequacy and renal medications
• complimentary parking at both Brookwater and South Brisbane 
• free Wi-Fi and entertainment package 

Private patients will be also able to request a treatment day and time that is most convenient for them.

The clincs at either South Brisbane or Brookwater can also provide access to specialist nephrology nurses and allied health specialists including a renal dietitian, renal pharmacist and renal social worker. Together this team focus ensures the delivery of excellent clinical care and the achievement of patient focused outcomes.

Admission to the service is via direct medical referral to affiliated Nephrologists, Dr Michael Burke and Dr Richard Baer.

The service also accepts patients holidaying from around Australia or internationally for both short and long term dialysis, and is available to appropriately insured or self-funding patients through the Mater Patient Facilitation Service.
