Theatre refurbishments have been completed at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane

The $7.5m investment in our Mater Private Hospital Brisbane theatres has now been finalised, with theatres able to re-open from Monday 22 February. The upgraded equipment and refurbished finishes deliver a contemporary and comfortable environment for our doctors and our patients.

The project has delivered an exciting transformation of this area to ensure we are continuing to deliver a leading private health offering into the future.

The work undertaken was extensive and involved the closure of theatres 1-6 for a number of weeks to enable the following upgrades to be completed:

  • new anaesthetic and surgical pendants
  • new wall and floor protection
  • lead lining
  • new ceilings
  • new medical services panels in recovery.

The new theatres now offer a new and enhanced environment along with upgraded equipment and are the result of a significant investment to create an improved environment for our teams and our patients.  The new anaesthetic and surgical pendants provide ceiling-mounted solutions to manage surgical equipment, reducing reliance on carts and streamlining workflow.

The project contractor, Premis Solutions, worked closely with the Capital Works and clinical teams to reduce any impacts while ensuring the project was delivered to the highest standards and on budget.

Director of Surgery Dr Chris Pyke said the project had delivered a much-improved space for VMOs and Mater staff.

“The work that has gone into this project has seen the theatres totally transformed, improving safety, standards and workflow in the process,” Dr Pyke said.

“Your patience and support throughout this project has been truly appreciated and the response we have had has helped us accommodate everyone’s needs and minimise impacts as much as possible.

“The theatres now offer a much more pleasant environment for doctors and patients and everyone is very excited to utilise the new facilities.”
