A/Prof Mike Beckmann, Head of Mothers Babies and Womens Health, and Maree Reynolds, Director Clinical Services Mater Mothers’ Hospitals, have been working with Mater’s maternity facilities and Mater People across the state to help build Mater’s first Clinical Network.
“Whilst there are unique challenges and opportunities in each of Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Redland and Brisbane, there is so much we have in common,” Mike said.
Together with local teams, Mike and Maree have commenced business development and workforce planning, market research with regional maternity patients, and have plans to extend Mater’s maternity care beyond the hospital through parenting support to new mums.
Mike and Maree have also established the first state-wide clinical quality meeting, bringing together all of the Mater’s obstetricians, gynaecologists and paediatricians to share new evidence/practices, benchmark data and look for opportunities to learn from each other. There are now also regular touchpoints with the Executive Officers, Unit Managers and MAC representatives at each site, and connections with Mater Education and clinical experts in Brisbane.
“We are keen to build these connections, and opportunities to share and learn,” Maree said.
