Following the suspension of all non-urgent surgeries in Australia, the Prime Minister's announcement on 21 April 2020 that elective surgery could gradually resume has been welcomed with optimism.
All non-urgent surgeries in Australia were suspended on 25 March to assist with the national response to COVID-19.
This gradual easing of restrictions to elective surgeries has now commenced allowing Category 2 and selective Category 3 procedures to resume.
These arrangements will be reviewed by the government on 11 May 2020 to determine if other elective surgeries and procedures can recommence thereafter.
