Mater Specialist Quick Find

Mater Outpatient Clinic Waitlist Times - public patients

This information is intended to provide transparency about our service and support your clinical decisions and your conversations with patients around referral pathway options and expectations of care.

The data is supported by Mater’s Referral Guidelines which provide essential details regarding our specialist services, our teams of clinicians and the required clinical work up prior to referral.

Our service aims to see all patients within target timeframes and we are always working to reduce waiting times for appointments. Some services have a higher demand than others. This may impact our capacity to see patients within these timeframes, and may result in longer waiting times for some clinics.

COVID19 and related service restrictions have impacted our current wait times.

Outpatient Specialist Clinics Activity

Clinical urgency categories have been defined for use in outpatient services delivered in Queensland publicly funded hospitals. These categories support safe and equitable prioritisation of appointments. More urgent cases are seen more quickly.

Our teams assign a clinical urgency category based on the information provided in a referral.

Each category of urgency has a target timeframe for outpatient clinic appointments to ensure safe care. The category target timeframes are:

  • Category 1 (Urgent): Appointment within 30 days
  • Category 2 (Priority): Appointment within 90 days
  • Category 3 (Routine): Appointment within 365 days

The table below provides an outline of the patient experience based on activity for the annual quarter period of March-June 2020.

  • Category 1/2/3 seen: The number of days waiting of the patient in the 90th percentile of patients seen for each category in the defined period.
  • Total appointments: Number of appointments attended in the defined period.
  • Waiting: The number of patients waiting at the end of this defined period.
  • Waiting in time: The % of the patients 'waiting' within the clinically recommended timeframes
