Biography

A/Prof Walsh is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in paediatric orthopaedics, neuromuscular diseases in children and adults, and adult foot and ankle surgery.

He completed his undergraduate training at Manchester University in 1978 before obtaining his Fellowship with The Royal College of Surgeons, London in 1982. Following this, A/Prof Walsh completed his Masters in Orthopaedics in Liverpool in 1985. He achieved FRACS in 2006.

He opened the first gait lab at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool and instigated the inaugural paediatric orthopaedic instructional course for the orthopaedic fellowship of the combined Royal Colleges of Surgeons, United Kingdom and is the principal consultant for the Queensland children's and adult gait laboratory.

Prior to his arrival at Mater in 2004, John was an examiner and Mersey region orthopaedic advisor for the Royal College in orthopaedics. In 2015 he was voted the best orthopaedic trainer in Queensland by his registrars, the first orthopaedic surgeon to receive this award.

A/Prof Walsh performs surgery at Mater Private Hospital Redland, Mater Private Hospital Brisbane and Mater Children’s Private Brisbane.
