Biography

Dr Eviston is a Sydney trained Head and Neck Cancer Surgeon with comprehensive training in both cancer surgery and Head and Neck reconstruction (including microvascular reconstruction).

After growing up in Queensland, Tim completed medical school at the University of NSW where he graduated with the Ian Webster Medal and first class honours. Dr Eviston then trained in general surgery at St George and Liverpool hospitals where he developed his interest in advanced cancer surgery and reconstruction under Professor Bruce Ashford and Professor Jonathan Clark AM.

Following his general surgery training, Dr Eviston extended his subspecialty training by a further three years with an endocrine/thyroid surgery fellowship at Liverpool hospital and two prestigious fellowships in advanced Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Reconstruction: Chris O’Brien Lifehouse/Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney and University of Toronto, Canada, where he trained under world experts at Toronto General Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto. This training included a large volume of complex procedures and a modern focus on patient-centred integrative cancer care and evidence-based practice.

Dr Eviston is passionate about optimising functional outcomes and recovery after surgery and completed a PhD during his training in the science of nerve injury at UNSW under Professor Arun Krishnan. During this PhD he invented and patented a new class of therapeutics to limit the extent of nerve injury at the time of surgery – this is now in clinical development through the Danish company, Gelventa Therapeutics. Tim is an inventor on 4 patents, has published widely in high impact academic journals, and has been an invited speaker at a number of international meetings, forums and panels.
