Dr James Morton was born in Brisbane and received his MBBS from University of Queensland in 1987 (University Gold Medal). He completed general internal medicine training in 1991 before undertaking specialist training in clinical haematology and stem cell transplantation at the Royal Brisbane and Mater Hospitals (1992-1995). From 1996 – 1997 Dr Morton was the international fellow at the prestigious Fred Hutchinson Cancer Centre, Seattle.
In 1998 Dr Morton returned to Australia as staff specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Brisbane. Dr Morton’s particular clinical interests include leukaemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, stem cell transplantation and clinical apheresis. He has published widely in these fields.
Dr Morton joined Haematology & Oncology Clinics of Australasia in 1997, now Icon, and practices from their South Brisbane and Chermside day hospitals. Dr Morton is an accredited specialist at the Mater Private Hospital Brisbane and Royal Brisbane and Woman’s Hospitals in Brisbane.
In 2015, Dr Morton was awarded Australia Day Honours for his “significant service to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders through not-for-profit organisations, and to medicine in the field of oncology.”
