Dr Chris Pyke is a general surgeon with a special interest in breast and endocrine surgery.
Chris Pyke is Professor and Director of Medical Services at the Mater private hospitals in Brisbane. He is Vice President elect of the RACS, Chair of the Foundation for Breast Cancer care, former President of Breast SurgANZ, and former Chair of the Court of Examiners.
After completing his surgical training at Mater, Dr Pyke undertook surgical fellowships at the Nottingham Breast Unit in the United Kingdom and the Mayo Clinic in the United States of America. On his return to Australia, Dr Pyke took up a position as senior lecturer with The University of Queensland and completed a PhD in breast cancer risk quantification.
Dr Pyke enjoys the challenge of working within a multidisciplinary team. He describes that environment as incorporating “challenging management decisions, changing team leadership, multiple team inputs, inbuilt quality assurance through cross checking, multiple stakeholders at all levels of the workforce, multiple guidelines and protocols, shared success and shared failure, laughter, tears and exhaustion”.
