Season 3 RSV Vaccine Trial to commence late September

Tuesday 1 August 2017

Season 3 for the RSV Vaccine Trial will be commencing recruitment in late September.

The possibility of protecting newborns against RSV infection is an exciting vaccine development for

several reasons:

  •  RSV infections occur in nearly all young children
  •  RSV infections affect children in daycare or at home
  • RSV symptoms can be similar to the common cold, but may develop into more severe complications
  • RSV most often causes serious illness in infants less than 6 months of age
  • There is no vaccine to protect against RSV available right now

The Principal Investigator Dr Glenn Gardener is very confident for a positive response from GPs.

19 participants were successfully enroled at Mater Mothers’ Hospitals for the 2016/2017 RSV Season.

Mothers’, Babies and Women’s Health Research at Mater will be sponsoring the upcoming GP Shared Care Maternity Alignment on Saturday 21 October.  All attendees will have the opportunity to speak to the study team and learn more about RSV and how GPs and mothers can take part in this important research.

Information on eligibility criteria will be available. Dr Gardener and his team will be present to educate and support GPs interested in participating in this season.
