Balloons and party streamers will decorate the Mater Mothers’ Hospitals on Thursday 4 June 2009 in celebration of the first birthday of the award winning new Mater Mothers’ Hospitals building.
One year ago 82 women, 108 babies, staff, equipment and stores were transferred from the original Mater Mothers’ Hospitals to their new state-of-the-art home.
Since the opening, the Mater Mothers’ Hospitals have assisted in the births of more than 9 000 babies—delivering a new generation of Queenslanders and providing exceptional care.
According to Mish Hill, Director Women’s Health Services, the past 12 months have been exciting, challenging and incredibly satisfying.
“The new up to date facility has enabled Mater to provide contemporary, cutting edge care that deliver real benefits to women, in a family-focussed environment,” she said.
“The year has seen the establishment of a number of new services including the Refugee Maternity Clinic, Early Pregnancy Assessment Centre and a Mater Mothers’ Research Centre.”
“The new facility has lived up to our expectations and we are really looking forward to continuing to grow the service to meet the community’s needs,” Mish Hill said.
Mater Health Services has provided maternity services to the community since 1961, with one in six Queenslanders born in the Mater Mothers’ Hospitals.
